New Beginning

"For last year's words belong to last year's language,
and next year's words await another voice."

T.S. Eliot
For most of us the new year begins much like those of
the past. Maybe some celebrating, "ringing out the old
and welcoming the new," or just a quiet night at home.
Nothing of significance takes place. We may make
resolutions fully intending to keep them, or just pay lip
service. The new year, however, is a good time to
re-evaluate our lives, taking into account our bodies,
minds, and spirit. We may consider a healthier life style and now to become
more fit, bolster our immune systems. We all pretty much know the mantra to exercise,
eat fruits, vegetables, etc, avoid fats, sugar, salt, and processed food; as well as the
conventional wisdom of the body's need for seven to eight hours of sleep each night. If
we pay attention to our bodies, we can know what they need. Neglecting them may
result in ill health or serious disease.
The mind also needs to be tended to. Doing the same mundane mental practices can
make usdull. It is good to get out of our "comfort zones." Take a class in a subject that
you tend to avoid because it seems difficult. Challenge makes us stronger, and a
self-imposed one, even more so.
We cannot meet physical and mental obligations without the spirit. To take a break
from the rigors experienced by the body and the mind contemplative and meditation
practices help us to become more calm and to reflect. We must enter into our most
inner selves for restoration of mind and body. Without continually keeping the spirit alert,
and active, and aware, respite for the mind and body are temporary at best.
To do the work that we are put on earth for we should forget the resolutions for mundane
acts that merely pass or go un-heded. Each day we must quiet our minds in prayer,
meditation, and contemplation. A continuous practicing will release our intuition. Listen
to it and you will have answers to a meaningful life. Once you have begun to access that
center of self, you will begin to be aware of your true mission and how to get there.
Don't drag unnecessary baggage into the new year. 2010 sounds like the title of a
futuristic novel or film. Many of never thought that we would see the year 2010. It is a
calendar date, but use it as a positive new start. Release that which no longer serves you.
That includes material possessions that you no longer use--get rid of them. Outdated
ideas and practices that may just be habit and have no use--let them go. With the start
of a NEW year anticipate NEW possibilities.
Remember that each day is a new beginning.
"I have set before you an open door, which no on is able to shut."
Revelations 3:8
